SCPKU is both a striking venue for Stanford events and supports faculty and students' East Asia-focused research and education endeavors. The Center provides a productive work environment in a quiet and scenic academic setting that serves as an office for scholars or a home base for field research elsewhere in China. The proximity of Chinese scholars at PKU and nearby Tsinghua University and Renmin University can provide new opportunities for convenient academic dialogue and collaboration.
Layout
With more than 3000 square meters of space in a tri-level building, SCPKU is both a Conference Center in addition to offering flexible and configurable rooms that can be used as offices, classrooms, and collaborative workspaces. The top floor (Courtyard Level) is built in the Siheyuan architectural style of the surrounding Langrun Yuan buildings. The interior design and furnishings of the rooms on this level complement the traditional style of the building. Multiple skylights and two-story light wells bring natural light to the lower levels (Mezzanine and Garden levels) which house western-style offices, classrooms, collaborative spaces, meeting rooms and the Conference Center featuring a stunning, multi-purpose atrium.
Individual offices and workspaces can be reserved for long or short-term visits. Spacious rooms are available for collaborative programs and permanent, multi-year programs may re-configure larger offices to meet their needs. Offices have standard business amenities and access to services including internet access, fax and copy machines, and mailboxes.
Fresh Air
SCPKU has a comprehensive fresh air ventilation system to cleanse its underground space. Air purifiers are also in all offices on the Courtyard Level. Measures are in place to keep the Center's level of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) within Beijing's Air Quality Index (AQI) parameters of "Good" and "Moderate."
